Revima Adopts LoRaWAN-based IoT Water Metering

Press Release  – Paris, France – March 30, 2022

Revima Group, a leading French aeronautics MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) provider for civil and military aircraft, has successfully deployed IoT solutions to monitor water consumption and environmental conditions at its Rives-en-Seine site in Normandy.

The project leverages LoRaWAN® technology through Factory Systemes’ Galium IoT Hub—powered by Actility’s ThingPark® Enterprise—bringing industrial scalability, full data sovereignty, and seamless integration into Revima’s IT and operational processes.

Why Smart Water Management Matters

Revima’s plant employs 650 people in 24/7 operations and consumes ~4,500 m³ of water annually (city + river). French regulations impose strict limits for chromium plating operations, yet the plant observed consumption drifts of ~10%.

The challenge was twofold:

  • Traceability & compliance for regulatory purposes.
  • Optimization & sustainability to reduce environmental impact and resource waste.

By digitizing water monitoring, Revima improves measurement accuracy, gains real-time visibility, and strengthens compliance with ISO 50001 and aeronautical regulations.

The IoT Deployment

  • 30 new smart water meters

Equipped with battery-powered LoRaWAN® sensors (~7 years autonomy).

  • 2 redundant gateways

    Ensuring secure, resilient data relay.

  • 50 wireless sensors

Temperature & hygrometry for aeronautical compliance.

  • Wonderware System Platform

Seamless integration with the plant’s existing SCADA.

Key Deployment Metrics

Metric Value / Notes
People supplied with drinking water (France) ~25 million
End-customers with meters 6.9 million
LoRaWAN® smart meters deployed 3 million+
Local water contracts 1,400
Drinking water plants managed 2,172
Distributed water ~1.6 billion m³ / year
Remote read target >70% of meters by 2027
Connectivity & Platform Orange nationwide LoRaWAN® network powered by Actility ThingPark

Benefits & Impacts

Consumption data is now uploaded every 10 minutes via Galium IoT Hub + ThingPark, compared to monthly manual readings. Factory Systemes added Modbus, MQTT, and OPC-UA connectors, ensuring scalability and legacy system compatibility.

Major benefits for Revima:

  • Autonomous fleet management of IoT devices.
  • Full data control & sovereignty (on-premises hosting).
  • Higher measurement accuracy & compliance.
  • Stronger environmental sustainability (reduced waste, optimized energy).
  • Easier scalability for future IoT use cases.

Transforming Water Services

Impact Area What Changes
Real-time data for consumers Customers access live usage; easier anomaly spotting; more accurate billing (fewer estimates).
Leak detection & customer empowerment Proactive alerts; in 2021, ~60,000 customers notified; >3 million m³ saved (~2% of water distributed).
Network management & compliance Focus on true leaks; accurate consumption monitoring (legal requirement); reduced non-revenue water via fraud/unauthorized usage detection.
Sustainable pricing models Supports ecological/dynamic tariffs (e.g., scarcity pricing, incentives for responsible usage).
Beyond metering Roadmap to add environmental sensors → unified multi-service IoT connectivity for utilities’ digital transformation.
Return on Investment (RoI) Higher unit cost offset by operational savings, reduced waste, and behavior change—critical amid climate-driven water scarcity.

Voices from the Project

Olivier Hersent - CEO Actility

“Water and energy management are key levers for industrial facilities. With Factory Systemes, we deliver high-availability LoRaWAN® networks, easily integrated into legacy systems thanks to Modbus compatibility. For Revima, this means waste reduction, energy savings, and sustainability.

Eric Lecuyer, Project Engineer, Industrial IT Manager, Revima

“The Galium solution allows us to enter the world of IoT while keeping full control over our data, from production to integration into third-party systems.”

Guillaume Oblin, IoT Product Manager, Factory Systemes

“Energy management is an unavoidable need for manufacturers, associated with ISO 50001. Factory Systems built an offer that makes IoT accessible, scalable, and easy to integrate into existing systems. Galium IoT Hub is agnostic and can be deployed on-premise or in the cloud.
