ThingPark Wireless powers 50th commercial national operator network as Telekom Srbija begins rollout of IoT network for Serbia, supported by Teri Engineering

ThingPark Wireless, the leading IoT connectivity platform, reaches a significant milestone today as Actility announces that Serbia’s Telekom Srbija is the 50th customer to select the ThingPark solution to power a national-scale commercial LPWA network roll-out. Actility’s regional partner and reseller, TERI Engineering, will provide front-line project management, integration and maintenance support during the roll-out and operation of the network. Telekom Srbija is innovative a locally-owned telecommunications company that for 20 years has had a leading role in rolling out new technology solutions in the fixed, mobile, Internet and digital service spheres, for the benefit of its customers both in Serbia and in the region at large.

Filip Bankovic, CTO of Telekom Srbija, explains the interest in IoT: “The Internet of things is the foundation of a new digital industrial economy having extraordinary growth potential. The opportunities that digital economy provides are virtually unlimited. We have decided that an IoT network is a natural extension for our business, and will launch an IoT network with state-wide coverage in Serbia to accelerate the growth of that new economy. To meet our IoT connectivity needs with the best solution, Telekom Srbija intends to implement an LPWAN network based on LoRaWAN technology using Thingpark Wireless in cooperation with our partners Actility and Teri Engineering.”

Olivier Hersent, CEO of Actility, comments: “We’re very proud that our platform has been selected by Telekom Srbija. As well as showing that ThingPark Wireless is the best solution for this national commercial IoT network rollout, the fact that we’ve reached this important milestone of 50 operator customers clearly demonstrates that ThingPark is the world’s leading IoT network platform, commercially and technically, which is why it is already powering over half the national and large-scale LPWANs globally.”

The first stage in Telekom Srbija’s rollout plan is deploying an internal company solution for monitoring the opening and closing of manhole covers to increase the security of the company’s infrastructure and support maintenance crews. This application will also provide a reference and case study for further commercial applications. The second phase of the rollout will be implemented by adding devices and applications for various commercial use cases such as home security, tracking and logistics and agriculture.

In addition, Telekom Srbija plans to work with the local developer community to encourage new applications, business models and connected applications.
